18 Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation

Blandy Experimental Farm, Boyce. 6:30-8:30pm. $15. Led by Shell Fischer. Mindfulness meditation can be helpful in dealing with stress, pain, and illness. Learn techniques of mindfulness meditation through discussion, guided meditation, and other exercises. This workshop will also provide information on an 8-week workshop beginning in January. Visit the Barns of Rose Hill in Berryville for tons of holiday cheer! The Toy Shoppe has many handmade toys, ornaments, and ceramics for sale. Students from Opus Oaks, Powhatan School, FFA, and area 4-H clubs have contributed festive decorations of all kinds. The Town and Country Garden Club has wrapped the place in greenery and Nalls Farm Market donated nine window wreaths.  14  Bill Whiting, Artist of the Shenandoah Valley, Art Retrospective

Through March 9, 2014. Barns of Rose Hill, Berryville. A retrospective including 60 paintings by this well-loved artist who captured the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. A signed, framed print of his painting, Along the Shenandoah, will be raffled off on the last day of the exhibit. Raffle tickets sold at the Barns. Submissions due for Artscape Old Town Banner program. 20 Created Equal Film Screening: Freedom Riders

Historic Long Branch, 830 Long Branch Lane, Millwood. 5pm. Free. Long Branch Plantation honors Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a film screening of Freedom Riders. This film screening is part of the National Endowment for the Humanities Program – Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle. Freedom Riders tells the terrifying, moving, and suspenseful story of a time when white and black volunteers riding a bus into the Deep South risked being jailed, beaten, or killed, as white local and state authorities ignored or encouraged violent attacks.
